Volunteer Training Program Description
In an Option home based program, all of our work-play is based upon an attitude of love and acceptance. We use the Option approach, as outlined in the award winning book and TV movie, Son-Rise, by Barry Neil Kaufman. We, as parents and directors of an Option program have been trained to create a wonderfully nurturing and stimulating environment for our special child, so as to encourage a bonding that perhaps will invite that little person to want to know more and participate with us to an even greater extent. Our intention is to help the child to be all he can be.
As volunteers, you will be trained in the child-directed Option approach. As you become an integral team member in creating this non-judgmental “fun” environment, you become an extend family member in that child’s life, while at the same time recharging your own sense of aliveness and well-being.
Your Volunteer Training includes:
·Hands on learning, while working individually with a child
·Regular feedback sessions: These times are designed to help you analyze and understand your interactions with the child, in order to help you access and enhance the effectiveness of your contact
·Group meetings: This is an important part in the child’s development and growth: The parents and volunteers come together to share and exchange their excitement and experiences with the child, and to help design/redesign the ongoing focuses and content of the program
